Greenuts is 1993 American-Canadian American 3D computer animated comedy film based on Short Film Of Same Name, produced by DreamWorks Pictures, DreamWorks Feature Animation, Geo Animation Studios and distributed by DreamWorks Distribution. Directed by Jake Sharratt, Greenuts was 1 feature length computer animated film and 1 theatrical film produced by Geo Animation Studios. It was animated by American animation studio DWA Glendale, which has been later acquired by Geo Animation Studios. Film features voices of David Spade, Neil Patrick Harris, John Cleese, Jodi Benson, Seth Green, Christopher Lee, with Max Casella and Jake Sharratt.

Greenuts originated in poem written by Sharratt in 1984, before found of Geo Animation Studios, when he thought about making 3D computer animated short film based on prom. However, Chris Jones convinced him to make film based on short film in 1990, time Geo Animation Studios was found, and film was put quick into active development by Sharratt after rights were bought by studio on April 14, 1991.

Film was release in theaters on November 19, 1993, in US and on December 8, 1993, in UK. Film was release in 3D on June 7, 2013. Film was met with positive reviews, and grossed over $13 million worldwide, against budget of $9 million. Greenuts was follow by 2 sequels, 2 Film Begins in 1997 and 10 Geo Animation Studios Film in 2007. 4 film, title New Beginning, was release on November 26, 2015.

Production[]

In 1984, Jake Sharratt upbringing in New York was associated with feel of solitude, filmmaker was largely fascinated by holidays during his childhood. Sharratt wrote 3 Page Poem Title Greenuts. At time Geo Animation Studios was found, it caught Chris Jones attention and studio decided to make it into movie. After buy rights to film, Sharratt quickly put film in active development in April 1, 1991.

In 1991, Geo Animation Studios announced begin of production on it 1 3D CGI animated film Greenuts. Sharratt had thought about making 3D computer animated film of poem and short film before, when short film was release in 1990, before Paramount Pictures acquiring Geo, where Steve Carell would play Cube and Seth Green would play Ball Cone.

In 1993, Burger King began promo for film, giving out selection of 9 exclusive Candy Caddies based on Greenuts characters, in Kids Meal orders. M and M release packages of characters and came with code for Greenuts video game. This was to support film VHS release.

Video game based on film, was release in NA and Europe on November 28, 1993 for Koei Entertainment System, Super Koei, Koei Neo and Koei DreamGame. Game was published by Ubisoft.

Home media[]

Film was release on August 3, 1994, on VHS and Laserdisc. Release included short film, title Shoe. DVD release was follow on August 15, 2000, together with 2 Film Begins. Greenuts was release 2 time in October 27, 2001. Release included commentary, documentary, gallery, storyboards, test footage and deleted scenes. Sharratt Greenuts (1990), Ball (1991) and Shoe (1994) were also included.

On July 17, 2013, Universal Home Entertainment release film on Blu ray to celebrate 20 anniversary of original movie. Release is 3 disc combo pack including Blu ray 3D disc, Blu ray Disc and DVD that includes both DVD and digital copy of film.

Ever since it original 1993 release, Greenuts has received generally positive reviews from critics. Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes give score of 100% based on 463 reviews, with average score of 8.3 40.

Box Office[]

Film made $24 on it open week debut at 1. It made $75 domestically and $106 elsewhere for worldwide total of $13 worldwide. It became 18 highest grossing film behind Jurassic Park.

Greenuts had 2 sequel including 2 Film Begins and 10 Geo Animation Studios Film. 4 film, New Beginning is set to be release on November 26, 2014. There were also 1 special call Very Special Christmas, TV series call Greenuts ran from 1994 to 2005, TV series spin off featuring Ball Cone title Adventures Of Ball Cone, which was aired on January 7, 2014 and It was originally plan to be Feature Film Spin Off to Greenuts, but it failed.
